We at Rosewood Church are NOT opening up our regular Sunday services at the present time. We are continuing with our online services Sundays at 11 A.M.
The main reason we are NOT opening up even though our provincial government has said Places of Worship can open up with 30% occupancy is because we feel it is still NOT SAFE ENOUGH to open up. District Superintendent Rev. Steve Ottley met with our Nazarene Church ministers by Zoom on Wednesday, June 10 to discuss the subject of opening up. Pastor Steve and many of the pastors expressed strong concerns about opening up out of concern for people's safety. There are still high numbers of new Covid-19 infections daily especially in the Greater Toronto Area. There are also new deaths in Ontario daily due to Covid-19.
Pastor Steve sought the advice of a person who is in a very senior health care position in Ontario who expressed serious reservations about the government allowing Places of Worship to open up. Pastor Steve also expressed concerns about how since some companies and businesses have opened up there has been an increase in Covid-19 infections.
At our May 19 board meeting we discussed initial plans of how we would eventually move back in our building to worship when it is safe to do so. At present Rev. Dr. Lisa Outar is working on an official detailed plan for reopening which will eventually be presented to our church board and to Canada Central District Church of the Nazarene for final approval. We are moving very cautiously out of concern for your safety. We pastors are meeting again by Zoom with Pastor Steve on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 11 A.M. to again review what is happening with Covid-19 and to decide what will be our next step.
It might be that you will hear of or see some Places of Worship open up. That is up to them. All I can say is that after reviewing all the facts at the present time, we do not feel we should open up mainly out of concern for your health and safety.
